Honda believes that the hybrid IMA Civic car, with a combination hybrid 1.4 litre petrol engine is the route to take in reducing emissions in smaller cars. The new Honda Civic IMA hybrid car can deliver a fuel economy rating of 4.5 litres/100km (61.4mpg) and emission levels that are well below the EU requirements. The car is now available in Ireland. Adrian Cole, managing director of Universal Honda importers of Honda in Ireland said that the Honda IMA was the preferred choice in the move to lower exhaust emissions. Speaking at the launch of the new Honda CR-V, he said that Honda would now mass produce the IMA and more than 30,000 cars were sold in the US in 2006. Honda's new Civic Hybrid has been declared World Green Car for 2006. A jury of 46 international motoring journalists awarded the prestigious title to the environmentally-friendlier vehicle as part of the World Car of the Year Awards. The Civic IMA Hybrid achieves a combined fuel economy of 61.4 miles per gallon and emits fewer carbon emissions than most cars on the road (109g/km). This is lower than the current EU requirement of 140g/km, rated the most stringent in the world, which is due to be reduced further in the coming years. |
