After weeks of discussions with various partners, the Board of Directors of General Motors has decided to retain the Opel brand within the GM Group. The company has announced that it will initiate a restructuring of its European operations instead. GM plans to present its restructuring plan to Germany and other governments and hopes for its favourable consideration. GM said that this approach was deemed to be the most stable and least costly approach for securing Opel/Vauxhall's long-term future.
GM believes that the European business environment has improved enough to cause this re-think. The company has immediate plans for a €3 billion restructuring plan.
