![]() Ford is offering early-bird deals on the Focus and Mondeo models in advance of the VRT changes in July. Ford Ireland is looking to dispel the uncertainty in the market over what the tax change in July will bring, by setting out the cost of holding off on buying their most popular models in a 'Buy Now' campaign. The VRT reform in July will see the price of some cars come down and other cars go up - with many of the country's best-selling petrol models among the latter. The Ford Focus 1.4, for example, currently enjoys a tax rate of 22.5 per cent, which will rise to 24 per cent in July. Road tax will also increase for the life of the vehicles, initially by €110 per annum. On that basis the car would cost over €500 more in July. As an incentive to buy now and beat the tax increases, Ford are topping up with an 'early buyer bonus' to bring this saving up to an even €750, if bought before April 15. In the case of the Mondeo, the saving is €1,500. "These aren't the only models where savings can be had, but they are among the most popular," explains Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director, Ford Ireland. "We felt this campaign was needed to provide some clarity to buyers unsure of what the implications of the tax change will be. "These calculations do not take into account the loss in value of a trade-in over the months till July. This makes the case to 'buy early' all the more compelling." In January, the Focus and Mondeo sold 2,182 and 2,216 units respectively, making them the country's top-selling cars. |
