Citroen cars have been on a roll of late with the introduction of new models and advanced new diesel engines. And the result of this is that Citroen has sold more cars in the first seven months of 2008 than in the entire year of 2007. ![]() Citroen car sales are surging ahead since the changes in VRT rates. The Citroen brand has recorded a 133% increase in sales in July this year following the tax changes, which favour cleaner cars. Against the backdrop of a falling new car market (-15% year on year), Citroen sales have gone from strength to strength, increasing both market share (+15.3%) and overall sales volume compared to 2007 – and that's with five months of the year still left to go! Citroen has managed to fit one year's worth of sales into just seven months thanks to stylish new models, such as the C4 Picasso MPV and the recently launched new C5 family saloon, a car already proving deservedly popular on the Irish market. Thanks also to the Governments recently introduced CO2-based taxation system –most Citroen models have fallen in price due to their class-leading emission levels. Citroen's green low-CO2 credentials are already proving a hit with buyers, the class-leading Citroen range of low-CO2 diesel models saw Citroen sales increase by an 133% in July alone. Many Citroen models offer the lowest CO2 emissions in their respective classes thanks to advanced HDi diesel engines. Citroen have more models than any other maker in the cleanest A-rated tax band, qualifying for just €100 annual road tax. The new C5 saloon is proving a popular choice with Irish buyers after only two months on the market with sales this year almost double that of the outgoing model. The C4 Picasso continues to go from strength to strength, thanks to its choice of 5 or 7 seat body styles, range of advanced HDi engines and spacious cabin. Citroen claims that the C4 Picasso is now a Top 3 seller in the Irish MPV market. |
