Citroen claims to offer the widest choice of cars in the low VRT and Road Tax Band A category. Car prices across most models in the Citroen range have dropped as a result of the VRT changes.

With the changes to Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) and annual road tax Citroen now claims to offer the Irish motorist the widest choice of cars in Band A, cars with 120g/km CO² emissions or less, with from superminis to family hatchbacks, including a true hot hatch, the 119g/km C2 VTS and a sporty Coupe in the C4 Coupe. A choice of 9 cars in all across the C1, C2, C3, C4 Coupe and C4 Hatchback ranges.

Cars in the Band A tax band qualify for the lowest rate of VRT at 14% and pay annual road tax of only €100. Along with savings on both VRT and road tax, low CO² cars are the most fuel efficient so with ever rising fuel prices, a low CO² choice is both  an environmental and economical choice.

Along with the wide range of cars available in Band A, most other models in the range reduce substantially in price, with some models dropping by as much as €3,330. Many models of Xsara Picasso, C4 Picasso 5 Seat, C4 Picasso 7 Seat, C5, Multispace, C6 and C8 have all come down in price thanks to the way Vehicle Registration Tax is now calculated.

New technology and advanced diesel engines have helped Citroen to achieve reduction of CO² emissions across its entire car range. Citroen continues to invest in the future with technologies such as Ecodrive, where the engine automatically stops when the car is stopped in traffic, and restarts automatically once the driver presses the accelerator.  Stopping and starting the engine repeatedly no longer causes excess fuel consumption. The reversible alternator and electronic fuel injection bring fuel savings of around 10%, or 18g of CO2/km, in the city. Over a standard combined cycle, savings are close to 6%.

Concept cars such as the C-Cactus point the way to the future, with emissions of just 78g/ms of CO², the use of recycled materials and simple design features.

The Airdream signature was developed to highlight Citroens commitment to the environment. The cleanest vehicles in the Citroen range will come under the Airdream heading. Vehicles must meet stringent criteria to qualify for the Airdream signature. They must emit less than 130g/km CO², be manufactured in a plant that is ISO 14001 certified and be designed to be 95% recoverable (recycling and energy recovery) by weight at end of life.
