Citroen's new C5 which lands at dealerships this week is a new and competitive offering from the French car company. The new C5 comes with a high level specification package, modern styling and now the bonus of competitive pricing. ![]() The new Citroen C5 models are now at dealerships across the country with prices starting at €26,700 for the entry 1.8 litre petrol engine model; while a discounted 1.6 litre HDi diesel powered model comes with a special entry price reduction. The entry price for the new C5 is from €26,700 for the 1.8 litre Ambience model rising to €48,295 for the top of the range C5 fitted with a 2.7 litre V6 turbo-diesel engine. The most popular model in the range will be new C5 fitted with a 1.6 litre HDi turbo-diesel engine, which will sell from €30,095 before delivery charges. In an initiative to encourage more drivers into the new car in advance of the VRT changes in July 1, Citroen in Ireland is offering an extra discount on the 1.6 litre HDi model, dropping the price by €2,045 to €29,850 plus delivery charges. This is a particularly keen offer on what is an impressive new car. For the new C5 Citroen is placing a lot of emphasis on styling. It claims that the new car design is the successful combination of French flair with Teutonic-like levels of quality, coupled with the highest standards of comfort, innovation and in-car technology for which the Company is renowned. The aim has been to deliver a stylish car with a quality feel to it. Citroen will continue to offer its latest version of the hydro-pneumatic suspension system to the new C5. This time around it is not standard on all models and Citroen will offer what it calls the Metallic or standard suspension system on the new car. The Citroen look has been strongly retained in the new C5. The car has a stronger look to it than the C5 of the past. It is marginally longer and wider than the previous model, with 17 inch wheels fitted on most models. The new C5 is exceptionally well equipped. It comes with a long list of features that could add thousands of pounds to, or may not even be available on rivals. These include a driver's seat massager, lane departure warning system, acoustic laminated glass, self-levelling suspension, automatic electric parking brake and directional headlights, whilst every model in the range comes with at least seven airbags, ESP with traction control, automatic air-conditioning, speed limiter, cruise control, Adaptive Front-lighting System and Citroen's unique fixed hub steering wheel. Driver and passengers are fully protected by up to nine front, side and curtain airbags, as well as a specially created torso-shaped bag which is deployed thanks to the unique Citroen-specific fixed hub steering wheel, for ultimate safety. Awarded a five-star Euro NCAP rating for adult occupant protection, the new C5 is one of the safest cars on the road. Control in difficult conditions is aided by the C5's advanced braking system – Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Emergency Braking Assistance, ABS and ESP are all fitted as standard. Citroen's much praised Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) is also available, to warn drivers of unintentionally crossing lane markings without signalling. The new C5 is available with a wide choice of engines from launch. The petrol engines available include 127bhp 1.8i 16V and 143bhp 2.0i 16V units, while there are four HDi diesel engines – 110bhp, 138bhp, 173bhp and V6 208 units – all fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter System that virtually eliminates particle emissions. Citroen say that the car has been built in partnership with BMW and Toyota. |
