On the comfort and features scale, the Audi A4 scores highly. But you will pay for the extras and it's easy to add 25 per cent more to the price, as was the case in the text car. The basic price came in at €40,300 (slightly reducing next week), while the extras came to a whopping €9,865 and that did not include Sat NAV, bringing the total to €50,165!

Audi has an enviable car in the new A4. It has style and image, which seems to justify the relatively high price. It has extra comfort, new looks and better economy.

Everybody wants to drive an Audi, at least that's the impression that I get. And that's not restricted to Ireland. The A4 has come out on top in poll of 40 million European car magazine readers as their number one choice. It took first place in nine countries and was the overall winner by a clear majority. There's no doubting that!
