Sunday Dinghy Series
Sunday's dinghy series which consisted of two races was sailed in a fresh breeze with winds speeds up to 25 knots. This along with plenty of white horses made for fast and exciting sailing. The Race Officer on the day, Noel Harvey, set a perfect windward/leeward course for the conditions. The fleet had a fast beat to the windward mark at the Spit and rounding swiftly to throw up their spinnakers they sailed downwind to the leeward mark at Blackrock. Gerry Murray's FX1 was hotly pursued by Denis Brederick, also sailing an FX1. Skillful boat handling during a broad reach saw Tony Murphy's Dart 16 regain close contact with both these contestants at the next mark. A quick downwind run to the finish saw Gerry Murray take first, Tony Murphy second and Denis Brederick third on corrected time. The second race over the same course was equally exciting as gusting winds called for careful boat handling, especially with spinnakers flying, in order to avoid capsizing. This race gave similar results with Gerry Murray taking first, Tony Murphy second and Denis Brederick third .
