Patches, the Galway owned TP52, finished third in the Trofeo de
Portugal on Sunday, after sailing was cancelled due to no wind for a
second day in succession. The Trofeo de Portugal is one of six regattas
in the Breitling MedCup series and this means that Patches is lying
fourth in the series with one regatta to go in Hyeres, France in
September.
After Sunday’s finish, Patches owner, Eamon Conneely said, "We would have been a lot happier if we had had racing today but that's how it goes. It's been a very good week, a very enjoyable week, especially the first day where we had three races in 25 knots of breeze that was pretty fantastic.”
“We were hoping we might get more wind, but unfortunately it didn't work out that way. But we are very pleased with a third place. I think the big breeze suits us. We certainly sail well in it, but we didn't have a great start to the week in fairness. The first two days weren't too great but we certainly pulled back in the offshore, getting two seconds is what really turned it around for us. The offshore was critical.”
“We have learnt a lot over the last four regattas. I think the boat is getting better, we are getting used to it, more consistent and only 27 points off the leaders. We are hoping to do well in Hyeres and who knows? It is very tight for the top six or seven teams, so it's going to be a really exciting regatta."
