Of the job, which sees him responsible overall for the Let's Do It Galway Management Team whose task is to manage the Galway Stopover including the planning of the festival, the requirements for the sporting event itself and the general planning and smooth running of the stopover, Sean acknowledges that it's going to be "a lot of hard work", due to the "high expectations" associated with the world's premier sailing event. "I'm basically in charge of everything that happens from when the boats arrive until when the whole circus packs up and leaves. Luckily I work with a great bunch of people who are all very dedicated and working to ensure that this will be the best stopover of the race."

And Sean is delighted with the reception the upcoming event has received thus far, saying the city is completely behind the event. "The welcome here has been fabulous. Everybody's so behind this. People are aware of the race but want to know more about it and more about how they can get involved."

"There are changes that have to be made, but as far as I'm concerned we are on track. Galway is the most compact of all the ports, so the atmosphere won't be diluted and the port is ideally suited."

"It will be in Galway from 23 May to 6 June, two weeks-ish. The actual arrival times of the yachts will be slightly unpredictable, coming from Boston – though we will know far enough in advance to ensure a good Galway welcome for each and every one. The big weekend will be the 30 – 31 May. The in-port racing off Salthill counts towards the trophy, so it'll be a massive spectator event. We are working hard to ensure that there are possibilities to view the event from both land and sea. It really will be an event not to miss!" he says.
