Galway Bay Sailing Club in Renville in Oranmore is to run Irish Sailing Association (ISA) Certified Level junior sailing courses at the club from Monday 7 July.

The courses, which will run daily from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with a hot lunch provided, are designed for younger sailors from 8 to 15 years of age, who wish to learn and improve their sailing skills. The Level One course caters for complete beginners, while the Level Two caters for improvers last one week each. More advanced sailors will take Levels Three and Four courses, which will last three weeks each.

In the classroom new sailors learn everything from port to starboard and how to deal with the wind and elements. They will learn how and why sailboats move, safety on boats and racing/cruising techniques.

On-the-water, the fun really begins, as the class ventures forth safely under the guidance of the instructors and their assistants, who will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience.

Adults can sign on for Level One and Level Two courses, which are provided each weekend at the club. It is not necessary to own a boat as GBSC can provide one.

As all the courses are very popular, early booking is advisable. For booking, contact the club manager, John Lowther, at 091-794527.
