Over twenty dinghies lined up for Tuesday evening's race which started out in light airs, with race officer Miriam Croke having set out a windward-leward course, which brought dinghies out to 'the spit' and back in to the cruiser start mark.

On evenings when the wind is light it is crucial to get a good start. Johnny Murphy on Xhiggy attempted to come in on port at the pin end to steal a quick start but was cut off by Tony Murphy approaching on starboard, a quick start was as such scuppered leaving Xhiggy starting at the back of the fleet.

The wind although light remained consistent for the first beat to the spit, rounding in the following order Tim Breen (Tiger), Johnny Murphy (Xhiggy), Gerry Murray.

As the race progressed the wind grew lighter leaving the boats at the front of the fleet with the advantage of being nearer home. Tim Breen crossed the line in 1st place, followed by Gerry Murray (FX-1) and Johnny Murphy (Hurricane). By the time the first boats had crossed the line it seemed to take minutes to cover a few metres on the water.

Unfortunately for much of the fleet it was impossible to complete the race as darkness approached. However all who languished in the Bay in the fallen wind said they enjoyed a beautiful sunset!
