Packed with fun for all the family, this year's event drew a crowd of almost 1200, twice the numbers seen last year. Among the attractions were Bjorn the polar bear and his handler Ursula. Their three shows, which took place upstairs in Schooner's restaurant, were well attended and enjoyed by children and parents alike, although it proved a little too lifelike for some smaller children. Children were spoilt for choice of activities. There were mad scientists in the laboratory blowing up things, a lighthouse-building activity with Forfás, cartoon-drawing classes with Black John the pirate, and plenty of fishy fun in the aquarium itself. A planned air-sea rescue demonstration, with the RNLI Galway lifeboat and the Coastguard, had to be called off when the coastguard helicopter was called to a real emergency off the coast of Co. Clare. Other marine exhibitors at the day included Let's Do It Galway, Galway Bay Sailing Club, Galway Dive School and Purcell Marine. |
