This year Science Week Ireland explores the theme 'Surrounded by Science' and illustrates just how much science surrounds us every day. Science Week is coordinated by the Discover Science and Engineering (DSE) programme. DSE aims to increase interest in science, technology, innovation and engineering among students, teachers and members of the public. Galway Atlantaquaria will celebrate the launch of Science Week Ireland with a Family Fun Day on Sunday, 11 November 2007 from 11am. The Family Fun Day will feature Captain Black John from the Marine Institute and his cartoon Drawing Classes, as well as Molly Cool Science Search, Face Painting, a play by the children of Claddagh NS, Ocean Tank Dives by GBSC, a talk by Brendan Smith of DERI and Vincent Hyland, and environmentalist and film maker, interactive exhibits and lots more. Children under 12 enter free when accompanied by a paying adult. The Atlantaquaria is currently running an art competition open to all primary school children and the brief is 'Let your imagination flow and show us what you know about the water that surrounds you'. The winner will be announced at Sunday Funday and more details are available on www.nationalaquarium.ie. |
