The Corrib Fishathon – the 24-hour 'catch a fish if he can' event for the benefit of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) - will take place on Saturday 21 June at Kitts Bay at 12 noon. Brendan and Mary Arrigan became involved with this organisation when Michael, their youngest (teenage) son, developed cardiac problems. The normal cardiac screening carried out in Galway did not detect Michael's condition, but, through contact with CRY, the proper screening process was given and Michael's problem was rectified immediately by surgery. He is now in perfect health. CRY is a registered charity and, like most charitable organisations, in need of funding. In an effort to raise funds for the charity, Brendan and Mary came up with the Corrib Fishathon idea. Brendan is a keen fisherman, but unfortunately his fishing ability is a bit suspect, so (to make sure he catches a fish) he is attempting a 24-hourfishing trip on Lough Corrib in a 19-foot lake boat. The Fishathon will conclude at 12noon on Sunday 22 June. Donations can be made to account number 01343324, sort code 93-70-96. All monies raised will be sent directly to CRY for the Screening Centre. |
