A new charity event that will take place off Salthill Promenade this September, titled ‘Paddle on the Prom’, will be launched in Massimos this Thursday 10 July at 8pm. The event is being organised by Galway Surfers in order to raise funds for the Galway Lifeboats (RNLI), and will take place on 14 September.

Participants will be paddling on their surfboards, parallel to the Prom for one mile, from the Prom car park to Blackrock and back. Funds will be collected through sponsorship cards prior to the event and collection buckets on the day. Anyone who wants to take part needs to register with the club.

“The event is open to non-members of the club, and we hope to get a great turn out, and raise funds for the Lifeboats, which is an vital service for all inhabitants and visitors to Galway. The distance of one mile means that anyone can complete the event, from the beginner surfer to the more advanced,” said Donncha Foley, Chairperson of Galway Surfers.

To help people prepare for the Paddle, Galway Surfers have a weekly paddle session in Salthill. All are welcome to attend, and you can find out more on www.galwaysurfers.com or by texting 086-8230651.
