A 67 year old woman has died following a collision on the N17 at Claregalway yesterday morning.

04claregalway accident_image.jpgThe woman, who is believed to live close to where the crash occurred, was walking along the road at 9.40am when she was struck by a car at Cregboy. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was then brought to UCHG to be treated for injuries. They are currently being kept for observation, although their injuries are not considered serious.

The N17 from Corinthians grounds to the Claregalway Cathedral was closed for several hours yesterday as members of the forensic collision unit carried out a detailed investigation. Gardai are appealing for witness to contact Mill Street Garda Station on 091-538000.

Claregalway has been hit with many tragic accidents in recent years. A mother and daughter died in April of last year when a trailer detached from a truck on the Tuam Road near the town and earlier this summer. Two young local men were also killed earlier this year when their car hit a wall near Loughgeorge.
