Winner all right, winner all right! Tote Ireland has been revealed as the new sponsor of the Galway Plate at the Galway Races for the next three years. ![]() The identity of the new sponsor was a cause of much debate after William Hill severed their ties with the festival's number one race after last summer's event. But the future of the www.thetote.com Galway Plate was secured with this latest announcement. The Chairman of Galway Race Committee, T.I Naughton, said he was delighted after securing Tote Ireland as the race's sponsor. "Tote Ireland has been sponsoring in Galway for the past number of years and their decision to sponsor the world famous Galway Plate is very welcome news to all of us. "Galway Race Committee and Tote Ireland have worked closely together for the last number of years and the record Tote turnover for a day of €2.1 million was achieved in Galway on Thursday 2 August 2007. We look forward to a successful sponsorship with Tote Ireland with increased Tote turnover at Galway in 2010," said Mr Naughton. Commenting on the announcement, Chief Executive of Tote Ireland, Mr Alexis Murphy said Tote were elated at striking the deal. "Galway is the highlight of the racing season for the Tote, with record pools typically set during the meeting. "All of the Tote's profits are reinvested into Irish racing and it is thanks to the loyal support of our clients that the Tote can make a significant contribution to the industry in these challenging times." This year's race will take place on Wednesday 28 July and will for the backbone of the weeklong festival. |
