Two men in their 20s have been released without charge following their arrest in Ballinasloe last Wednesday over the theft of vehicles and power tools with an estimated value of €65,000. Gardai in Ballinasloe investigating the theft of a 4 x 4 vehicle in March from Dublin arrested the two men in Caltra, Ballinasloe, after they stopped a 4x4 vehicle at a checkpoint. The men were taken to Ballinasloe garda station for questioning. As a result of this, gardai carried out a number of searches on properties in Ballinasloe and Loughrea and recovered a Mercedes van and a haul of power tools. They also seized the 4x4 the two arrested men were driving. The two men were released late on Thursday evening without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The total value of items recovered is estimated to be in the region of €65,000. The recovered tools are believed to be have been stolen in the West of Ireland over the last couple of months and gardai are looking for the public's help to locate the owners of the recovered items. Gardai now have in their possession chain saws, angle grinders, power washers, boxes of tools, floodlights, electric drills, an assortment of electric saws and other items.
