The popular nurse who was tragically killed in a car accident in Inverin at the weekend has been laid to rest following an emotional ceremony yesterday.

Mary Dillane was fatally injured when she was involved in a two-car collision at Minna at approximately 9.45pm on Saturday night. Ms Dillane was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash, while the male and female occupants of the other car were taken to University Hospital Galway where they received treatment for minor injuries.

Ms Dillane, who was originally from Castlerea in Co. Roscommon, was a well-known and respected nurse, who specialised in fighting superbug MRSA. Anguished friends and colleagues visited her home on Monday and attended a moving service at Minna Church, before her burial in Moyrus ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.
