It is racing time again in Galway as the October racing festival kicks off at Ballybrit this Bank Holiday weekend. The races take place on Sunday, 28 October at 1.30pm and Monday, 29 October at 1.35pm.

This year it is not just horses that feature as Galway's victorious U-21 All Ireland Hurling Champions will make an appearance and the Chairman of Galway Race Committee will make a presentation to the team after the fourth race on Sunday 29 October.

Then again on Monday 29 October the Galway Minor All Ireland Champions will attend together with the Ladies All Ireland Soccer Team Champions. The Chairman of Galway Race Committee will make a presentation to both teams after the fourth race.

Monday 29 October is Family Day at the Galway Races and children are invited to dress up in their best Halloween costumes and enjoy a FREE fun-filled day in a specially decorated Halloween Building at the back of new Killanin Stand with a kiddies disco with Bo Bo, tricks and treats, Pipa the clown and the Circus Project, face painters and other fun characters.

There will be vouchers for Toy City for the best Halloween costumes, together with spot prizes generously sponsored by City Limits, The Eye Cinema and Toy City.

Meanwhile, punters bent on the racing can look forward to two great days of competitive racing with 14 races consisting of both flat and national hunt races. There is a total prize fund of €320,000, which has attracted a host of well-known owners and trainers. There will be a guaranteed jackpot each day of €10,000.

This year lunch will be served in the Plate Suite of the Killanin Stand for €30 per person. All bookings to Fiona at Lydon House on 091-564015.

Admission for adults is €15 and children under 14 will be admitted for free. As usual students and OAPs will be admitted at a discounted rate on production of a valid, current ID. For further information log onto www.galwayraces.com.
