Some of Galway's top artists were among more than 4,000 US and international performers who took part in the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Annual (APAP) Conference in New York at the weekend. Now in its 51st year, this major conference, which is held in New York each January, is the largest performing arts market in the world and key to securing US performance opportunities for international theatre, dance and music. Culture Ireland, the Irish state agency with responsibility for promoting Irish acts abroad, assembled almost 30 companies from across Ireland to take part in the APAP conference this year drawing from theatre, dance, traditional, classical, jazz and contemporary music. Amongst the performers were members of the Druid theatre company as well as traditional music groups Líadan and Gráda who both have members hailing from Galway. |
