Local Dáil Deputy Noel Treacy has said he is delighted with the final decisions of the commission, especially in relation to the greater Athenry Education Catchment. "I am very pleased with the recommendations of the National Commission on School Accommodation for the Athenry area and I will continue to work with the boards of management, Presentation Sisters, County Galway VEC, the teaching unions and the respective parents associations, in ensuring that we can progress each of their individual school requirements as quickly as possible." Malachy Naughton, principal of Athenry Vocational School, told the Galway Independent that the news was a big boost to the school. "We are really happy with the recommendation that the school should get an extension. The school has just completed a state-of-the-art graphics studio to equip students for the new syllabus in Technical Graphics, as well as the woodwork rooms for construction studies. A quarter of a million euro has been spent on a new science laboratory and the upgrading of two other science rooms. Now this is another boost and major development should progress without undue delay as it can be accommodated on the present site," he said. |
