A man in his 30s is to appear in Galway District Court later this week after being arrested on suspicion of being involved in a burglary spree and a ram-raiding incident over the weekend. Three local men, all from the city, were arrested in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday after a ram raiding incident in Mervue, where at till and a sum of cash were taken.

Gardai rushed to the scene after the thieves used a car to bust through the front of the ‘Headmasters’ hairdressing premises in Mervue. Soon after, they recovered the vehicle and three men were arrested in the vicinity as they fled the scene by foot.

All the men were arrested just after 6.30am, shortly after the incident occurred.

One of the men has since been charged with three counts of burglary and three counts of causing criminal damage and is due in court either later today or tomorrow morning. The other two men have been released and a file on both is currently being prepared and will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai believe the three men arrested were involved in a crime spree from Sunday night to Monday morning, as two other business premises were broken into and small sums of money taken.

O’Connor's Butcher at Castlelawn on the Headford Road was entered and money taken, while soon after, the nearby Gold Mountain Chinese Restaurant in Castlelawn Heights was also illegally entered and cash stolen.

The hairdressers that was attacked has been closed since the incident as a substantial amount of damage was caused to the premises.
