Galway barmen are set to take it all off for charity. This year's National Barman's Leg Wax Appeal in aid of Childline was launched in Fibber Magees' pub in Galway on Friday 20 June. The campaign, which is being supported by the Vintners' Federation of Ireland (VFI), is one of Childline's biggest national community fundraising initiatives and aims to raise €100,000 for the charity this year. Speaking at the event, Ciaran Levanzin, owner of Fibber Magees said: "We are delighted to be involved in this appeal. We feel that Childline is a very worthy cause and we are always happy to support local charities. This is a really great event and we have all had great craic, especially the victims!" Val Hanley, President of the VFI, said the VFI were delighted with the response and enthusiasm from Fibber Magee's and all the pubs around the country who are putting such effort into organising their own barman's Leg Wax. David Muldoon, ISPCC community fundraiser, said the ISPCC had ambitious plans to reach 100 per cent call capacity on Childline services by the end of 2011. The funds raised through the appeal would help to maintain and improve the Childline service around the country, including the Galway centre, he felt. The National Barman's Leg Wax Appeal is now in its fifth year. The appeal has so far raised over €300,000 for the service, enabling Childline to empower, support and protect children through IT and telecommunications. By registering for a Leg Wax pack and holding a sponsored Childline Leg Wax event this summer, bar staff and punters will be playing a vital part in this nationwide fundraising appeal. All monies raised from the National Barman's Leg Wax Appeal will go directly to fund the Childline service, ensuring every child has a chance to be heard. The Childline National Barman's Leg Wax Appeal will run until the end of September.
