Galway fast food supremo Pat McDonagh has become embroiled in a BCI investigation, after two Supermac's branches were featured in a recent episode of The Apprentice.

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland has launched an investigation into the TV3 show amid claims of alleged product placement, which is illegal in Ireland.

The episode in question, which was screened on 6 October, featured the Dublin and Galway branches of the Supermac's restaurant chain.

It is understood that a sum of money was paid to the production company Screentime Shinawil in relation with the appearance and McDonagh has since said "It was a great opportunity for Supermac's to be broadcast to the nation."

However, TV3 are insistent that no regulations were broken in the making of the programme and the use of Supermac's was completely legal.
