Ireland's leading family restaurant chain, Supermac's is celebrating 30 years in business this July with a county-by-county poll to identify the local phrases that natives feel best represent their county. ![]() Kate Larkin (Model), Barbara Uszler (Supermac's) and Gabrila Gradkowska (Model) pictured at the launch of Supermac's 'Mighty' poll. Leading contenders already are 'Ya langer, ya' in Cork, 'Legend' in Limerick and 'Pure mule' in Offaly. Pat McDonagh, founder and Managing Director of Supermac's, said the idea for the poll started when the company devised advertising to celebrate its 30th anniversary with the headline 'Mighty', which is, of course, a very Galway expression. "From there, we thought it would be interesting to see what other phrases would best suit other counties," he said. The 'Mighty' advertising campaign will run over the summer months in tandem with the on-line poll culminating in the top phrases from each county actually being featured in Supermac's advertising. The site will also provide county colour downloads for PC and mobile phone screen savers. In addition to this, Supermac's are selling their fries for only 50 cent on the Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 July. Supermac's was founded in 1978 by then school teacher, Pat McDonagh, when he opened his first restaurant in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. Despite operating in a sector normally associated with multi-national chains, it is attributed as the pioneer of such Irish delicacies as the curry chips and the snack box.
