This weekend will see a group of enthusiastic cyclists set out on the annual Maynooth to Galway cycle in aid of the Jigsaw initiative in Galway city. ![]() To celebrate the 21st year of the Galway Cycle, the Maynooth Students for Charity have decided to dedicate the money raised directly to Galway-based charity, the Galway branch of Headstrong. With an early start at 6am this Friday, 4 April, over 120 cyclists will travel 123 miles to arrive at Eyre Square by 6pm that evening. Organisers anticipate a huge crowd to welcome the cycling heroes into Eyre Square upon their arrival. Local bands, musicians and dancers will greet the cyclists when they arrive. During the journey, a presentation of cheques will be held at the HSE Creagh Training Centre in Ballinasloe at approximately 1.45pm. Cheques from various fundraising events will be presented by Garbally College, Ard Scoil Mhuire, the HSE Creagh Training Centre and the Mental Health Association. There will also be a number of cheques presented to the cyclists on their arrival in Eyre Square. Proceeds from the fundraising cycle will go towards Headstrong's Jigsaw initiative at Mary Street in Galway, to help establish a drop-in and outreach service for young people experiencing mental health difficulties in Galway city and county. The Jigsaw project is a partnership between the HSE Galway, Headstrong, local Galway business and community leaders and young people.
