A motorist who was found to be in possession of a small quantity of cannabis was warned by Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court this week that he could go to prison and be disqualified from driving if drugs were ever found in his car again.
Mark Curran (35), 226 Castlepark, Ballybane, Galway, who has one previous conviction for being found in possession of drugs, pleaded guilty yesterday to being found in possession of enough cannabis to make one joint when his car was searched by Garda Cathal Rodgers at 9.30pm on 4 August last year at Dublin Road, Galway.
Judge Fahy told Curran the court had to consider the imposition of a disqualification as he had been driving a car in which drugs were found. Defence solicitor, Olivia Traynor said her client did not know the cannabis was in the car and that it must have been there for a very long time. Imposing a €200 fine for this second offence, Judge Fahy warned Curran that he now had two convictions for possession of drugs and that if he ever came before the court again for a similar offence he could get a sentence and be disqualified from driving as well. |
