A 20-year-old man, charged with the sexual assault of a woman in the city on St Stephen's Day, has been remanded on continuing bail following his appearance before Galway District Court this week. The accused, who may not be named for legal reasons, is charged with sexually assaulting a woman in the Salthill area of the city on 26 December last year. He had been brought before a special court sitting following the alleged incident on St Stephen's Day and was granted bail. Inspector Pat McHugh told the court yesterday he did not have the DPP's directions yet and he looked for a further adjournment to next month. Judge Mary Fahy remanded the accused on continuing bail to appear before the court again on 19 May next for DPP's directions. She urged the inspector to have the directions by the next court date. |
