The Leaving Cert students at Salerno Secondary School in Salthill have joined forces with Zhivago Records and The Saw Doctors in a unique fundraising project to collect monies for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland in memory of their classmate Emily Feeney who died earlier this year from Cystic Fibrosis.

The Saw Doctors played a short concert in Salerno Secondary School on Monday to launch the Salerno Challenge to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

As a result of a sponsorship deal that the Salerno girls have negotiated with Joe Carroll, Managing Director of Zhivago Records, all monies from the sale of the new Saw Doctors single, 'About You Now', will go directly to the Salerno Cystic Fibrosis Fund.

"Many of the Leaving Cert girls in Salerno are big fans of The Saw Doctors and we decided to approach the band and Zhivago Records for help with our 'Salerno Challenge', which is held every four years," said Aisling Curran, a friend and classmate of Emily Feeney.

"Emily had an incredible effect on people and everyone who knew her felt they were special to her. She had remarkable strength and positivity despite the immense challenges that she faced in her life."

The Saw Doctors new single, a rocked up version of the Sugababes hit, 'About You Now', will be released on Friday 10 October and it will retail in all Zhivago Stores for €2.50.

'About You Now' is currently play-listed on 2FM and Galway Bay FM and the Irish distributors of the CD, RMG Chart, are predicting a Top Ten hit for group.

Earlier this year, The Saw Doctors performed their version of 'About You Now' on the Podge and Rodge show. The dodgy bachelors set The Saw Doctors a challenge on the Rock and Roulette part of the TV show. With just five minutes rehearsal, they played a storming cover of the Sugababes No 1 hit, 'About You Now'.

"I'm delighted to sponsor the Salerno Challenge. I've ordered 2,000 copies of the new Saw Doctors single, 'About You Now'. I'm very confident of a lot of sales for the Salerno Cystic Fibrosis Fund," said Joe Carroll of Zhivago Records.

Davy Carton, Leo Moran and the rest of The Saw Doctors will sign copies of their new single in the Zhivago Store in Shop Street on Saturday 11 October at 4pm.

Bonus tracks on the new single include the 'Bebo' song and 'She's Got It', as well as the video that the Tuam lads filmed on the streets of Galway last year for the People in Need re-release of 'I Useta Lover'.

A few mistakes
written by Nonie, October 22, 2008

There were a few mistakes in this passage. First of all, the whole school particpated in the Salerno school challenge, not just the Leaving Certs, second of all, the Saw Doctor's performance did not 'Launch' the salerno school challenge, it had been going on since just after the school term started, and finished on Saturday the 18 of October, with a total of over 100,000 raised. Lastly, 'all monies'is not good grammar.
