Householders in Galway are being asked to go green and make a special effort to recycle during this year's Repak Recycling Week. The event, which takes place from Monday 1 to Sunday 7 October, aims to improve on last year's successful recycling initiative. In 2006, Ireland's recycling rate grew by a significant 24 per cent and Repak is urging County Galway to build on this through the Repak Recycling Week theme ?Keep Recycling ? let's get it sorted'. The Green school initiative has been very successful in bringing awareness of recycling to young people in the county, with 114 Galway schools participating in the project. There are currently 92 bring banks around Galway and WEEE plan to set up additional centres around the county on Saturday 6 October. Over 68 tonnes of plastic, 261 tonnes of glass, and 230 tonnes of cardboard were recycled in Ireland last year and people are reminded that small electrical items such as toasters, kettles, electric toothbrushes, radios etc can all be recycled for free at local recycling centres.
