A new playground is to be constructed in the Ballyloughaun Beach area following a long wait for Renmore residents.

Following ongoing representations, City Councillor Mary Leahy has welcomed the news, saying the playground should be constructed by summer of 2008.

"Renmore Residents Association are delighted with this positive news and the Playground Sub Committee must be commended on their hard work in getting a consensus on the location.

"I have also secured a commitment with regard to providing an outdoor shower and new toilets on this beach. With on-going improvements of facilities at this beach, the provision of this playground will go a long way to ensure a variety of healthy outdoor fun activities in an increasingly much used amenity. To date, Renmore has had to make do with one playground, in Woodland Green area, which houses a very limited supply of non stimulating rusty equipment," concluded Cllr Leahy.
