All Ireland Club Champions Portumna will soon be playing under the sun after winning the Best Club Under the Sun competition run by Etihad Airlines.

With a total of 65,000 votes, Portumna has been selected as the winner of the trip of a lifetime.

Etihad Airways will now fly Portumna GAA to a four-day training camp with Hurling legends and former All Stars, DJ Carey and Nicky English, in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf and enjoys sunshine and blue skies all year round.

In this desert oasis, DJ and Nicky will put the team through their paces, giving them pointers and hints and tips that helped him to become part of one of Ireland's most successful senior hurling teams.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the club. We are all very thankful for everyone that got behind the team and voted for us. It will be a pure joy to train under both Nicky and DJ. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Abu Dhabi with all the lads," said Damien Hayes, Galway and Portumna hurler.
