![]() Noel Grealish. Galway West PD TD Noel Grealish has called for the Mahon Tribunal to be wound up, saying people are "sick and tired" of it. Speaking to the Galway Independent from Florida yesterday, Deputy Grealish said the Tribunal, which has cost the state €300 million already, should "wind up and give its report". "The Taoiseach has given his evidence. He has admitted getting a 'dig-out' from his friends due to financial difficulties around his marriage. That is already in the public domain," said the Galway West TD, who would not comment on whether he considered the 'dig-out' to be wrong. "It's not for me to say whether it was right or wrong, that is for the Mahon Tribunal's report." Deputy Grealish said he was suspicious of the way in which the matter has been handled by the Opposition. "I believe a campaign is being orchestrated by Fine Gael and Labour against the Taoiseach. The most interesting thing about this is that, up to the General Election, they were quite happy to leave it to the Tribunal. "They weren't willing to do it before the election because public opinion doesn't support their views. I think if you did a survey in the morning 90 per cent of people would think Mahon should wind up. "This is a man who, let's remember, left the funeral of his own mother to go straight to Belfast to sort out the Good Friday agreement," said Deputy Grealish, affirming his support for the beleaguered Fianna Fáil leader. However, Deputy Grealish said this support for Mr Ahern is not related to rumours of his 'cosying up' to Fianna Fáil. |
