Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW) in conjunction with Galway's Palestine Children's Appeal is to play host to a screening of a new Palestinian documentary film, 'Memory of the Cactus'.

John Reynolds, a member of the Al Haq production team that made the film, will take part in a questions and answers session after the showing of the documentary.

This 42 minute documentary film combines the cactus and the memories it stands for. The film addresses the story of the destruction of the Palestinian villages of Latroun in the Occupied West Bank and the forcible transfer of their civilian population in 1967. Over 40 years later, the Israeli occupation continues, and villagers remain displaced. The film follows two separate but parallel journeys.

In Israel it is known as Canada Park, a place where Israelis can embrace mother nature, while they enjoy barbeques and picnics. But this park has a history unbeknownst to many Israelis.

The film will premiere in Galway in the Nun's Island Studio, Nun's Island on Tuesday 2 September at 8.30pm. Admission is free.
