Galway people won't have to travel to Meath to see Newgrange anymore, as the incredible monolithic tomb will soon be visible in Eyre Square.

Galway based artist Ciaran Dunlevy is currently transforming the club's main door to resemble the entrance to the passage tomb in Meath, something that is sure to shed new light on the club.

Ciaran, who is originally from Drogheda in Co. Louth, told the Galway Independent that he is very excited about this project and hopes to put the finishing touches to his masterpiece in the next week.

"We are doing some great work with club K. A lot of the art is UV active artwork, which will only be visible when it is illuminated by UV light. But the main body of the monument will be visible all the time.

"It was important to keep the look of the pub for the day time, but hopefully it will transform at night time when the club opens it doors."

Ciaran studied art in Galway and, since completion of his degree, has exhibited his work in the RDS as part of the Student Art Awards and NCAD, where he sold a piece of his fine art work for charity and raised €2,000 for the Make Me Smile Foundation. He has also had a solo exhibition in Drogheda and is hoping to do another show sometime in the near future.

During the recent Angels – Beacons of Hope exhibition in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre, Ciaran met Nollaig Fahy, creator of the Angels exhibition and ended up painting three of the angels including those designed by The Edge from U2, Irish rugby captain, Brian O Driscoll and one of his own design. The exhibition is currently in Belfast and will then move to Dublin, before being auctioned off to raise funds for Right to Sight, First Step Georgia and Gaisce, the President's Award.
