Galway City Mayor Niall O Brolchain has launched his general election campaign, saying he will focus on the acronym THREEE - Transport, Housing and Homelessness, Regional Balance, Energy, Environment and Economics. Speaking at the launch of his campaign on Monday, Mayor O Brolcháin said there was a "huge deficit in terms of transport" and that a "holistic transport policy" needed to be put in place. Green Party leader Trevor Sargent TD said the Western Rail Corridor could be achieved with proper planning. Mr O Brolcháin's main focus for the campaign is the environment and energy. "Environment is everything, it means everything and in terms of alternative energy, Galway can become a huge centre of excellence," he said. Mayor O Brolcháin said his decision to run in the election "marks the start of an exciting era of change for the people of Galway". He thanked his wife and four children, who he said had made it easier to achieve the work-life balance. The Greens are the only political party who don't accept corporate donations. There will be a fundraising event tomorrow, Thursday 25 January at 8pm in the Westwood House Hotel, Galway. |
