NUI, Galway’s Alumni Association has sponsored Galway-based Dragonfly Theatre Company in their recent performance at the New York Fringe Festival. Dragonfly’s ‘Married to the Sea,’ was premiered at the New York Festival.

The play, by Shona McCarthy, is a performance driven, non-naturalistic piece of theatre that tells the story of Jo and Galway’s Old Claddagh sea-faring community.

Jo is an eight-year-old girl with a special gift. On the mysterious disappearance of her father, she must contend with an unwelcome intruder in her household and her family’s secret past begins to unravel.

Along with fellow founder members, Fiachra O’Dubhghaill and Siobhan Donnellan, Shona is a graduate of the MA Degree in Drama and Theatre Studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
