NUI Galway could be set for further building as the college have applied to demolish the iconic National Diagnostics Laboratory Building and replace it with a new Human Biology Building. The proposed development would be the latest part of the college's redevelopment as the construction on the long awaited €40 million Engineering Building has recently commenced.

The National Diagnostics Laboratory Building is situated beside the Arts Science Building and the former Aras na MacLeinn building and also runs along the canal.

The new proposed four-storey development will house undergraduate teaching and laboratory space, bioscience research spaces, academic offices and an imaging suite.

As part of the plans, the storage shed adjoining the National Diagnostics Laboratory Building will also be demolished.
