Residents in the Doughiska area will be able to walk in safety following the introduction of new delineators to highlight the very dangerous junction leading onto the Doughiska Road from the Oranmore Coast Road.

In addition, city engineers have also agreed to provide public lighting at this junction, which is currently in complete darkness. The news has been welcomed by City Councillor Mary Leahy who said that joggers and walkers in the area were put at risk by the lack of lighting.

"This junction is in total darkness to the extent that residents in the Roscam area are unable to identify their road and are by passing the turn to their destinations. This situation presents the very real risk of an accident for motorists. While it is great to note the many residents out walking and jogging into the evening, their safety is very much put at risk in these circumstances," said Cllr Leahy.

"At my request, City Council has requested that the ESB prepare a design for public lighting at this location. Following receipt of this plan, it will then be possible to indicate a timeframe for installation of the public lighting. In the meantime, residents can look forward to the installation of delineators in the coming week. This measure will go a long way towards reducing the risk of an accident at this location."
