The newly elected President of Network Galway has pledged that the group will work closely with inspiring speakers and experts in 2008 to assist its members in remaining both competitive and productive during a year which she said, will be challenging for all businesses.

In her opening address, the President, Mairead Cosgrave, MD of Ashling Communications outlined her priorities for the year ahead, which include Network Galway becoming a strong lobbying voice in the city regarding infrastructure, future planning and traffic congestion.

"We need local and national government officials and elected representatives to work towards getting this city moving. It is unacceptable for people to have to spend two hours a day in their car, trying to get to work. It is unacceptable that we are not attracting new business into the city and the region and it is unacceptable that there is no cohesive and strategic vision for the future growth and development of the city," she said.

Continuing she added, "It is becoming more and more difficult for business to grow and develop in Galway, the lack of capital funding for the region is eroding our competitive advantage, the imbalance between the east and west of the country must be reversed."

On a personal note Mairead stated that she is very much looking forward to the challenging year ahead and to expanding the membership of Network Galway. Network Galway meets on the first Wednesday of every month in the Westwood House Hotel at 8pm. Non members are welcome to attend.
