A campaign spearheaded by Salthill residents has paid off, with funding being granted for pedestrian-controlled lights on the Dr Mannix Road.
Scoil Ide Parents’ Council headed the campaign, which also included other local schools, the Salthill Active Retirement Association, Salthill-Knocknacarra GAA, Devon, Glenard, Maples and Oaklands Residents Associations. The group had repeatedly made representations to Galway City Council to have lights erected on the road as a matter of urgency. South Ward councillor Donal Lyons welcomed the news saying he had submitted a notice of motion to Galway City Council to get the lights erected as soon as possible.
“I am delighted that following this week’s announcement by the Department of Transport, the necessary funding has now been secured and included in this years Non -National Road Allocations. I will be requesting Galway City Council to undertake this work as a matter of urgency.” |
