Heritage Week, which started last Saturday and will continue until Saturday, 2 September, has lots more excitement to offer Galwegians and visitors.
One new event is the walking tour led by Mike Lynch, which was so successful that the Tuesday tour was completely sold out. However, there are still a few spaces left for Friday’s walk, which will explore the city’s canals and waterways. The tour meets at the Muse Café at Galway City Museum near the Spanish Arch, and combines historical details with personal anecdotes.
This tour is taking place in addition to the usual tours run by archaeologists Peadar O’Dowd and Willie Henry, which explore the medieval streets of Galway.
Heritage Week is part of European Heritage Days, a Council of Europe and European Union initiative. In Ireland Heritage Week is co-ordinated by the Heritage Council in conjunction with the Department of the Environment.
