Two men charged with robbing three bookie offices earlier this year were sent forward for trial last Monday at Galway District Court. Kenneth Bowden (26), a native of Rathnafishogue, Hacketstown, Co Carlow, and Graham Coughlan (21), of Tang, Ballymahon, Co Westmeath, are both charged with robbing €200 cash from staff at Pyramid bookmakers, Summerfield, Claregalway, on 2 February last. They are also charged with robbing €1,700 cash from staff at SU2 Sports Bookmakers, Main Street, Craughwell, on 31 January last and with robbing €30 cash from staff at Oran Sports Bookmakers, Main Street, Oranmore, on the same date. Both accused were staying in rented accommodation in Clarenbridge at the time of their arrests last February. Coughlan took up bail shortly afterwards but Bowden has remained in custody since the time of his arrest unable to meet the terms of his bail. Garda Jason Kelly gave evidence on Monday of serving a Book of Evidence on both accused in court that morning. On the application of Inspector Mick Coppinger, Judge Mary Fahy sent both accused forward for trial to Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing on 14 July next. She remanded Coughlan on continuing bail to that date and she remanded Bowden in custody with consent to bail, as set by the High Court on his own surety of €1,000 and one independent surety of €1,000 to appear before the Circuit Criminal Court on that date also. |
