A public meeting is to be held tonight in Athenry to discuss a public realm plan for the town. Keith Simpson and Associates (KSA) were commissioned by Galway County Council to do a Public Realm Plan for Athenry. The project will be discussed tonight, Wednesday 3 September, at 7.30pm at the Raheen Woods Hotel, with a presentation from KSA. Strengths and weaknesses of the town will be addressed, positive attributes built upon, and insofar as possible, elements that undermine the town's viability alleviated. Orientation/connectivity within the town and immediate surroundings, building frontages, key public spaces and the relationship between the town and its historic walls will be addressed. The plan will be a vision of how to best use and manage public spaces, improve quality of life for those living and working in Athenry, as well as enhancing its appeal as a destination town where businesses can flourish and visitors choose to return to. All are welcome to share ideas and any concerns about the future of Athenry at the meeting. Any queries should be directed to the Heritage Office at Galway County Council on 091-509198 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |
