A man in his early twenties has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in Inverin this morning, (Monday 21 July).

The body of a woman, believed to be in her early twenties, was found outside a bungalow at Na Minne, near the Poitín Stil pub, shortly after 2am this morning. The area has been sealed off pending forensic examination and the body remains at the scene.

The man, also believed to be in his early twenties, was arrested in the locality shortly after the discovery and is now being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Mill Street Garda Station. Neitherhe nor the tragic murder victim are thought to be local to the Inverin area.

His period of detention was extended this morning as Gardaí upgraded the investigation to a murder enquiry. The State Pathologist is due in Inverin later this morning to carry out an examination of the scene and a preliminary post mortem examination.
