Irish aid organisation GOAL are holding their 'Swim for GOAL' event at the Blackrock Diving Towers, Salthill on Sunday 27 July from 12-1pm.

The charity event is taking place to raise funds for GOAL's water and sanitation programmes in the developing world, where the agency currently operates in 12 countries providing disaster relief and implementing development programmes.

Organisers Mick Roche and Ronan Scully (GOAL) have said this is a fun event for the young and old and for the experienced and inexperienced swimmer. Dive-in is at 12 noon and people are invited to come along at any time until 1pm, have a splash and help raise money for the poorest of the poor.

According to Mick Roche, "Swim for GOAL is an event for everyone who cares about the plight of vulnerable people in the developing world. All that is involved in the Swim is that people get sponsorship cards, get people to sponsor them, turn up anytime between 12pm and 1pm on Sunday 27 July at the Blackrock Diving Towers, Salthill, hand in their sponsorship cards and money and swim or splash. Or you can just turn up on the day and make a donation to GOAL."

People are urged to raise sponsorship for this event by getting sponsorship cards from the GOAL West of Ireland office on 091-587901 or by calling into Leisureland, NRG Fitness Club, Clybaun Hotel, Kenny's Art Gallery, Lonergan's Pub, Salthill, Holland's Foodstore, Dalysfort Road, Salthill or Claddagh and Celtic Jewellers, Spanish Arch.
