Galway man David Lally and his American fiancŽe Rebecca McCluskey pictured celebrating their engagement in The King's Head during their visit to Galway recently. When David Lally, originally from Mountbellew and now living in San Diego, asked his Californian girlfriend Rebecca Mc Cluskey to join him on what would be her first trip to Ireland, she had no idea what the romantic Irishman had in mind. Half way across the Atlantic, David dropped to one knee in the middle of the first class lounge, produced a three stone diamond and platinum engagement ring from his pocket and asked Rebecca to marry him. To his joy and relief, and the enthusiastic applause of passengers and crew on the Delta Airlines flight she said yes. On their arrival in Ireland, David took his new fiancée to meet his parents Tomas and June and the rest of the family in Mountbellew before whisking Rebecca off on a tour of Connemara and an overnight in Ashford Castle. On Thursday night last, the romantic couple enjoyed an intimate evening with family and close friend in the Ruby Room at The King's Head tavern in Galway city before boarding the return flight to San Diego, where wedding plans are now underway.
