The hurling county board meeting that took place last night was scheduled as "a regular meeting", with the senior manager's future "just one of the items on the agenda," according to a county board official. Speaking to the Galway Independent in advance of last night's meeting, a delegate said nothing would be decided at the meeting. Last night's agenda also included local championship matters and the minor hurlers' spot in the approaching All-Ireland final. Fuelled by media speculation and varying word on the ground, the meeting was to take place last night in the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry. An embattled Ger Loughnane was expected to give his report to county board officials and delegates at last night's meeting, after which delegates would have the opportunity to question him. According to one county board delegate speaking prior to last night's meeting, "Nothing will be essentially decided at this meeting as the manager will give his report and then club delegates may or may not have questions on it. However, it will be decided in the coming weeks and in future meetings whether or not Loughnane will stay on for another year with the senior team." |
